HISTORY
The modern day Nokia was created from Nokia company, Finnish Rubber Works and Finnish Cable Works Ltd. Nokia’s history began in 1865 with Fredrik Idestam, the mining engineer,, opening a ground wood pulp mill on the banks of the Tammerkoski rapids in the town of Tampere, Finland to make paper. In 1868 Idestam began to expand his business and opened a second mill near the town of Nokia by the Nokianvirta river. In 1871 Idestam called upon the help of his good friend and statesman Leo Mechelin who together transformed his firm into a share company and renamed it the Nokia company.
